Court Halts Trump Executive Order Attacking Federal Union Rights

In a major win for unions and federal employees, a federal judge has blocked enforcement of Executive Order 14251—an order that would have stripped collective bargaining rights from workers across dozens of federal agencies, including CDC.

The Trump-issued order claimed national security concerns as justification to exclude workers from longstanding labor protections under the Federal Service Labor-Management Relations Statute (FSLMRS). But the court wasn’t convinced.

The judge ruled that the order raised serious constitutional issues and posed immediate harm to workers' bargaining rights. The injunction preserves the status quo while the legal challenge proceeds, ensuring that unions like AFGE can continue to represent their members without interference. Read the order here.

What this means for us at Local 2883:

  • We keep our seat at the table.

  • We keep our rights to bargain over our working conditions.

  • We keep our power to protect each other.

AFGE is proud to lead this legal fight alongside our fellow unions. This ruling affirms what we’ve always known: the right to organize, bargain, and speak up at work is not a privilege—it’s a foundational piece of good government.

We’ll keep standing up for federal workers and the public we serve. Because when our rights are protected, our communities are stronger.

Stay informed. Stay involved. Stay union strong.

In solidarity,

AFGE Local 2883
